Grant Me Your Smile

Daddy sits in front of you
He’s going through
What he can see
It’s on TV
On his mobilphone
Acting like a clone
Just flesh, no soul
Being a mole
All day
And night as well
You desperately want to leave this shell
You’d like to learn
You want to earn
                Just a tiny smile
But it’s been a while
Too long to count the days
The palm of his hand lays
On his knees
To collect all the keys
He needs for the next level
That he can travel
Obviously not of fatherhood
That you already understood
To the other world on screen
Emotions in this world unseen
And so you try
To catch an eye
You want to meet
Your daddy and greet
What’s left of his human side
There is nothing to hide
You think and grow
Somehow to show
Your daddy another way
A life where he doesn’t pay
The price for his addiction
A lifestyle of contradiction
Acting busy, moving fast
But his digital status won’t last
And while you try to catch a smile
You want to crawl the extra mile
Until you realize
Daddy will always criticize
When he’s interrupted from scrolling
By his offspring trolling
Him into fatherhood
He’s instantly in foul mood
Without smiling through his eyes
And so your tries
Are fruitless and painful
ou start to feel like a fool
Shrugging off your feelings
Getting your first phone at two
Your first burnout at four
You fear telephone calls
And meeting people
You lock yourself up
And order everything you need
You don’t need to leave your flat
And you don’t care about dirt and dust
You won’t ever have trust
In yourself or others
Daddy loves you
Is just a phrase
Printed on your latest t-shirt order
Life is getting shorter
But the one thing you can’t buy
Makes you sigh
In agony from time to time
                You just wanted a smile
When you were young
Now you are a psychopath
With your own song
The fear of the streets follow your path
And you hunt them in your wrath.
