No Angel

I know I’m no angel
But my time hasn’t come
To break free from the humdrum
And the daily absurdities.

We’re often asked:
Can you imagine in ten years’ time
What is your life?
What have you become?

Then we always answer:
Ask me again in ten years’ time
My future self will
Have the tools to tell.

Until then I’m no angel
I do things that I want
And put a straight front
On my face forever.

You just have to act
After a confident scheme
For your games then seem
All justified and fair.

Only you know you’re no angel
And your time will come
When the world’s mad from
Your fake news and laughter.
