Sonnet #75: Bitter Sweet Merry

The sweetness of a porridge break at dawn
While time is shifting backwards in the train
My thoughts are on a christmas market lawn
Instead of merry joy it’s raining pain
The far right and the extremists will kill
Not only joy but actual merry people
Ignoring cars as threat is not a skill
And tanks on festive streets should be illegal
I see the ruins of the East go by
On rails it’s easy to forget the past
It’s hard to stand the beauty of the sky
When there are fears of reason that might last
Again those merry times are bitter sweet
But times of trouble won’t be called defeat.
